Introduction to Showcase Query (Express Edition)


During this live, instructor-led three-part, introductory course, you will become familiar with Showcase Query. Learn how to create, modify and run basic Showcase queries (data retrieval/queries). Master the 5 basic SQL clauses used for data retrieval. Add run-time prompts to those views and work with dates (conversion and aging in days) too.

    •  Using inner, left-outer and exception joins
    • Creating join conditions

    • Using edit masks to format data
    • Creating break groups and subtotals
  • Creating calculated fields (columns)

    • Using the date function to convert numeric and character fields to usable dates for use in date calculations and selection criteria
    • Using date functions for aging and date calculations
    • Using set (aggregate) functions to create summary results
    • Creating formula calculations
  • Selecting records
    • Use of run time prompts and variables
    • Using SQL functions in conditions
    • Creating complex selection criteria using and, or and grouping
  • Sorting results
  • An overview of saving results


  • A high-speed Internet connection (DSL, cable modem, or T1)
  • A screen resolution of 1024 x 768 or higher
  • Showcase 9x installed on your IBM i
  • Showcase Query client 9.1 installed on your PC
  • Access to Query and the SCSAMPLE90 Showcase sample data library during class for hands-on exercises – the library can be restored if needed prior to class, please request instruction on restoring
