The majority of viruses are spread via email. As a result, one of your first lines of defense is mail scanning. To maximize your protection and mitigate potential virus outbreaks, we recommend the following configurations for mail scanning in Stand Guard Anti-Virus for Domino:
- Mail scanning should be turned on and set to scan *ALL file types.
- Run a daily On-Demand scan of the mail database ‘mail/’. Use the Timeout feature if needed to control how long the scan is running. (Do not use incremental scan for this.)
- Run a weekly On-Demand scan of all databases. Use the Timeout feature if needed to control how long the scan runs.
- Update virus definition files (DATs) at least once a day, preferably before the daily mail database scan kicks off. This can be accomplished from either the AVMENU on command line or DAT Update panel in Notes. For the best protection, add a second DAT update to your job scheduler to run approximately twelve hours after your first update. This will ensure that you are scanning with the most current definitions.
