  • V5R3 or higher.

  • Ability to sign on to the IBM i as QSECOFR or equivalent (*SECADM, *ALLOBJ, and authority to RSTLICPGM command).

  • Must be current on the latest Cumulative PTF Package, HIPER Group PTF, and Database Group PTF for your operating system release.

  • A license key is required. Be sure you have a product license before starting this procedure.

Note: The NetServer for IBM i will need to be restarted to activate or deactivate Stand Guard Recycle Bin. Specifically, the QSERVER subsystem will need to be ended and restarted, which may terminate file transfers and data connections already in progress. Instructions for restarting NetServer are provided in the message help when the exit point is activated.

  1. Create a temporary directory on your PC: C:\TEMP.

  2. Download the Stand Guard Recycle Bin 1.10 application to the temporary directory. Current users can access the download from the My Account page. If you're a new user, you should have received an email message containing the download link. If you don't have it, contact your Bytware Regional Manager.

  3. Unzip the file to the C:\TEMP directory.

  4. Open a DOS window (Click Start > Run, type COMMAND, and press Enter). Then, type the following commands:

    1. FTP, then press Enter.

    2. OPEN, then press Enter.

    3. Type your IBM i system name or IP address, then press Enter.

    4. If necessary, type your username and password, then press Enter.

    5. QUOTE RCMD CRTSAVF QGPL/SGRB110, then press Enter.

    6. BIN, then press Enter.

    7. PUT C:\TEMP\SGRB110 QGPL/SGRB110, then press Enter.

    8. BYE, then press Enter.

  5. Sign on to the IBM i with *ALLOBJ and *SECADM authority and run the following commands:

  6. To go to the main Stand Guard menu, type RBMENU on a command line and press Enter.

  7. To activate Stand Guard Recycle Bin, do the following:

    1. Take RBMENU Option 1, change the Recycling activated parameter to *YES.

    2. Run STANDGUARD/RBRESTART or schedule for off-hours.

Note: This command ends the QSERVER subsystem, restarts NetServer for IBM i, and restarts the Database ODBC Server. Restarting the QSERVER subsystem disconnects active NetServer and ODBC sessions. Telnet sessions are not affected.

  8. To install the Stand Guard Recycle Bin IBM Navigator for i Plug-in, do the following:

    1. On your PC, start the IBM Navigator for i.

    2. Click File > Install Options > Install Plug-ins, and follow the steps for Selective Setup. On the Components Selection Screen, check the box next to Stand Guard Recycle Bin Plug-in and click Next. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
