Nationale-Nederlanden is a global financial services company offering medium and long-term savings and investment solutions, insurance, and pensions to more than 800,000 customers throughout Spain.
DISPARATE APPLICATIONS, COMPLICATED PROCESSES
At Nationale-Nederlanden in Spain, there’s a lot of key financial information that needs to be exchanged with other banks and insurance companies, as well as providers. It’s critical for them to keep up with the flow of information so other processes down the line don’t get held up.
They had been using disparate applications and separate programs to aid in this work, but the processes were taking up too much time. A programmer in their development group attempted to automate some of the processes using PowerShell scripts and the .NET programming language, which didn’t completely solve their problems. And when the programmer left the company, Roberto Veronesse, IT Specialist, realized there wasn’t proper documentation to continue the work and was stuck trying to maintain the complicated processes.
CENTRALIZING TASKS WITH AUTOMATION
Roberto quickly realized he would have to start from scratch. On the bright side, this gave him the opportunity to further improve their processes by finding a way to centralize all their tasks in one comprehensive solution. After evaluating a couple different automation tools, Roberto chose a robotic process automation (RPA) solution—Automate from HelpSystems.
“When we started with Automate, we had to start the tasks from scratch and rebuild all of our processes,” Roberto says. “The idea was to use Automate to centralize our operations because it was very de-centralized, and we were using many different technologies.”
In just weeks, they transformed their old, manual processes into new with RPA and centralized their disparate business applications like SQL Server, Oracle, and more. They were even able to re-use some of their PowerShell scripts inside Automate for an even faster implementation time.
INTEGRATED AND STREAMLINED WORKFLOWS
Roberto and his team currently have over 100 RPA workflows defined and in production. They use RPA to streamline everything from simple workflows with one task to more complex tasks that are critical for their day-to-day work. And the ability for Automate to integrate with a variety of applications, has helped bring everything together in one solution. This saves their company major time that they can use to focus more on faster, high-quality customer service.
So far, they’ve integrated Automate with SharePoint, SQL Server, Oracle, Active Directory, and Azure just to name a few. “The ability to integrate with several other tools is great,” Roberto says. “Plus, the ease of use and ability to easily learn and train other people is why we love Automate.”
The success of RPA has Roberto already looking to the future. “With how fast we migrated our processes, we know this product will allow us to automate even more processes across the company,” he says.
Roberto is currently working on training several people from teams across Nationale-Nederlanden, so they’ll have the ability to simplify their own processes with RPA. Roberto is working with Automate’s services team to develop a training program and hold workshops to train their teams.
Next, Roberto is looking to the cloud. His idea is to rebuild better infrastructure for their organization by utilizing applications and services using both Amazon AWS and Windows Azure. By putting some applications in Amazon and some in Azure, Roberto hopes to further guarantee the availability of their applications. But he knows one thing for certain: with Automate’s application integrations, everything will be easily connected.
