350 IT professionals from organizations large and small around the world define the ongoing viability and strong ROI of the IBM i platform in first annual survey

Minneapolis, MN, March 10, 2015—A consortium including noted IT websites IT Jungle and PowerWire.eu, in conjunction with software provider HelpSystems, today announced the results of the first annual IBM i Marketplace Survey. Over 350 IT professionals responded to the survey about hardware, software, and staffing in the data center; completed, current, and upcoming IT initiatives; and their outlook on the future of the platform.

“We are pleased to see the continued strong showing of IBM i as a centerpiece for IT strategies,” says Chris Heim, CEO, HelpSystems. “Regardless of size, the vast majority (94 percent) of IBM i shops believe the platform delivers better ROI than other servers. This speaks to a viable and thriving marketplace.”

“The many other encouraging and sometimes surprising responses also describe a user community that is committed to building on the power of IBM i,” adds Tom Huntington, Vice President of Technical Services at HelpSystems and author of the survey.

Computing environments of all sizes, most with a heterogeneous environment of multiple platforms, still rely heavily on IBM i to run web servers (70 percent), host data warehouses, and support modern technologies like SAN, VIOS, and high availability solutions. Applications are the lifeblood of any platform and IBM i is seeing no shortage of new development in this area.

“It’s great to finally see the number of organizations using modern languages like Java, .NET, and PHP for new application development,” says Huntington.

The complete 2015 IBM i Marketplace Survey Results are now available online.
