Ties Recognized for Company Contributions, Community Involvement

Minneapolis, MN, November 21, 2013—Help/Systems, a leading provider of systems management, security, and business intelligence solutions, is proud to announce that Mark Ties, chief financial officer, was named CFO of the Year by Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.

Ties, one of two honorees selected in the medium, private company category, was honored at an awards event on Nov. 14 and is profiled in the publication. Honorees were chosen by a panel of financial executives and scored on their contributions to company finances, management, and community involvement.

Ties joined Help/Systems in 2011 and successfully partnered with the company’s executive team on a change in ownership. Then, working alongside private equity investor, Summit Partners, they led the company through significant changes that include four acquisitions and recapitalization of the business. The acquisitions consist of Safestone, CCSS, and InterMapper (Dartware) in 2012, and ShowCase (IBM software portfolio) in 2013—now all divisions of Help/Systems.

In addition, Ties invests his personal time and energy in the community and is an example of how Help/Systems employees live the company values by actively volunteering. The company participates with the nonprofit TreeHouse, an organization that helps at-risk teens with social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual needs.

“I am proud to recognize Mark’s important contributions to Help/Systems,” says Janet Dryer, Help/Systems CEO. “His experience and leadership have helped the company grow and prosper through the sale of the business, several acquisitions and consolidation of finance, HR, IT and legal operations to our headquarters in Eden Prairie.”

Long-time security expert, Pat Botz, recently joined HelpSystems. Botz goes way back in the computer industry. He wrote the Basic compiler and CAD tools for Control Data supercomputers and then lead the development of CAD tools for its AIX workstation line three decades ago. He eventually became a lead security architect for the IBM i platform, and left Big Blue a number of years ago to start his own security firm, Botz & Associates. Dan sat down to have a chat with Chris Heim, chief executive officer of HelpSystems, and John Vanderwall, vice president and business unit manager for security services at the company, as well as Botz, who now has a senior security services consultant position at the company.
