Halcyon Announces HA-MX Monitor v11 with Remote Monitoring of MIMIX Through Mobile Apps

June 2, 2013

Halcyon Software, a global leader in systems management software, has launched a new version of their HA-MX Monitor software for IBM customers using MIMIX for their high availability and business continuity strategy. The new version of HA-MX Monitor allows IT staff to view and manage all MIMIX alerts from a single dashboard, or via their Apple and Android smartphones and tablet devices.

HA-MX Monitor V11 informs system administrators when MIMIX processes are not working as they should, alerting the IT team of any issues and if a problem remains unresolved for a period of time. It includes key enhancements such as integration into the Halcyon Enterprise Console, a centralised graphical user interface and free mobile ‘apps’ to provide full visibility and the ability for IT staff to respond to situations when they are away from their desks.

According to Donnie MacColl, Technical Director at Halcyon Software: “For businesses offering 24/7/365 operations, any interruption or downtime is costly, in terms of lost sales opportunities and customer satisfaction. High availability (HA) applications running on their IBM Power Systems, such as MIMIX, allow instant ‘switch over’ to the replication of their production system during unexpected downtime. Our new HA-MX Monitor delivers high levels of business continuity by monitoring the HA application to ensure that the replication of data is carried out correctly, with automatic alerts of any issues that need to be resolved as they occur, and production systems are always up-to-date without compromising data integrity.”

Halcyon Software’s product strategy is to ensure, where possible, that users can access their data from wherever they are in the world. This new release of HA-MX for IBM Power Systems, and the centralised user interface with the mobile apps, makes ‘single point of access’ a reality and enables MIMIX users to save considerable time.”

Customers already using Halcyon’s HA-MX Monitor can upgrade to this latest release free of charge. It is available as a stand-alone option and it also integrates with Halcyon’s IBM i monitoring suites, Levels 1-4. The Enterprise Console is included with HA-MX Monitor.

Long-time security expert, Pat Botz, recently joined HelpSystems. Botz goes way back in the computer industry. He wrote the Basic compiler and CAD tools for Control Data supercomputers and then lead the development of CAD tools for its AIX workstation line three decades ago. He eventually became a lead security architect for the IBM i platform, and left Big Blue a number of years ago to start his own security firm, Botz & Associates. Dan sat down to have a chat with Chris Heim, chief executive officer of HelpSystems, and John Vanderwall, vice president and business unit manager for security services at the company, as well as Botz, who now has a senior security services consultant position at the company.
