Cybersecurity Survey Shows Organizations Struggling to Balance Security with Business Efficiency

Over 650 IT and cybersecurity professionals ranked ransomware and phishing attacks as top concerns

Minneapolis, MN, May 2, 2018—HelpSystems today announced that 65 percent of organizations around the world are struggling to balance strong security with business efficiency, while threats of ransomware and phishing attacks loom largest. These are the key results of the 2018 Top Cybersecurity Risks and Mitigation Strategies Survey, which included more than 650 IT and cybersecurity professionals from around the world.

Ninety-one percent of survey takers say their management considers cybersecurity at least moderately important, and 67 percent either have a team dedicated exclusively to cybersecurity or are in the process of forming one. To supplement their internal staff, nearly half of organizations are leveraging cybersecurity consultants. An additional 21 percent are exploring this option for the future.

“After 2017’s devastating ransomware attacks and data breaches, it’s encouraging to see so many organizations recognize the importance of cybersecurity and are directing resources toward this problem,” said Chris Heim, CEO, HelpSystems.

“Implementing appropriate security controls without impeding day-to-day operations is a challenge that’s expected to grow as new regulations like the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) take effect. Already, we see organizations addressing the issue in multiple ways, often pairing managed services with automated software solutions.”
