Preparing for the Phone Demo
Before the phone demo, do the following:
- Review the Robot/TRAPPER and Robot/CONSOLE User Guides, if possible.
- Determine the goals you hope to achieve by using Robot/TRAPPER. For example: monitor your most critical devices, monitor your entire network, receive SNMP event notifications from your network devices, use the product with other Help/Systems products, and so on.
- Determine who will use the product. Make sure the users are available for the phone demo.
- Bring the Robot/TRAPPER and Robot/CONSOLE User Guides to the phone demo for reference purposes.
- Robot/TRAPPER can check the status of (ping) any network device with an IP address at regular intervals. Robot/TRAPPER also can convert event notifications from SNMP-enabled devices into System i messages, which can be automated. Go to www.helpsystems.com/support/helpfacts.html and select Robot/TRAPPER to see if there are Help/FACTS for setting up the SNMP devices you want to use with Robot/TRAPPER. You also can check with the device vendor or their Web site to find this information.
During the Phone Demo
During the phone demo, we will do the following:
- Discuss the Robot/TRAPPER Main Menu: licensing; adding and deleting devices; holding and releasing devices; checking device status; and displaying message queues and message centers for devices.
- Discuss the Robot/TRAPPER Control Menu: starting and stopping the Trap manager and Status manager jobs, checking the status of these jobs, and working with the RBTSLEEPER subsystem.
- Discuss the Robot/TRAPPER Setup Menu: obtaining and compiling MIBs, sending MIBs to other systems; message ID mapping, using message prefixes and message files with Robot/CONSOLE; setting ping priorities, using message queues, setting job run priorities, and more.
