Using FTP to Send Save Files (*SAVF) to Help/Systems

Use these instructions to send save files to Help/Systems.

When naming the save file you will be sending, use the first three letters of your company name and then the name of the file For example, HELREPAS, where HEL are the first three letters of the company name and REPAS is the name of the file.

Steps to Transfer a File via FTP

Transfering a Save FIle from your System i to the PC

  1. Start at the DOS prompt, C:\>.
  2. Enter the following at the DOS prompt to start an FTP session.
  3. FTP

  4. At the FTP prompt, enter the following:
  5. OPEN system name or IP address of your System i

  6. When prompted, enter your User ID and Password for the System i.
  7. Enter BIN (for Binary mode).
  8. Enter GET. Then, press Enter
  9. The Remote File is the save file you are transferring to Help/Systems. Enter the Remote File name as library/save_file, where library is the System i library where the save file is found and save_file is the name of the file. Press Enter.
  10. The Local File is the location on the PC where the save file should be copied, for example, C:\location, where location is the complete pathname (including the save file name) where you want to copy the file.
  11. Note: You may need to set off the pathname with double-quotes (" ") if it doesn’t follow the DOS 8.3 naming format. For example, "c:\documents and settings\user\ desktop\mysavf".

  12. After the save file has been sent to the PC successfully, type QUIT.

Transferring a Save File from Your PC to Help/Systems’ FTP Site

  1. From the DOS prompt (C:\>), type FTP to display the FTP prompt.
  2. Enter the following:
  3. OPEN FTPSUPPORT.HELPSYSTEMS.COM

  4. When prompted, enter the user ID and password you received from your Help/Systems Technical Support Consultant. (Note: The user ID field is case-sensitive; make sure you enter the ID using lowercase letters.)
  5. Enter BIN (for Binary mode).
  6. Enter PUT. Then, press Enter.
  7. The Local File is the file that is on your PC. Enter the pathname you specified when you transferred the file to the PC from the System i, (C:\location). Press Enter.
  8. The Remote File is the name of the file as it will appear on Help/Systems’ FTP site. Enter the following:
  9. save_file

    where save_file is the name of the file.

  10. After the save file has been transferred successfully to Help/Systems’ FTP site, type QUIT. Then, type EXIT to exit the DOS session.
