RBTADMIN/RBTUSER: What are They & How are They Used?

RBTADMIN and RBTUSER are user profiles that are created during installation of the Robot products on your AS/400. After the user profiles are created, they are registered into the SNADS directory tables on your system.

These profiles are designed to own all Help/Systems objects. RBTADMIN is a member of the user class SECOFR and has all object (*ALLOBJ) authority. RBTUSER is a member of the user class PGMR and has the special authorities of job control (*JOBCTL) and save system (*SAVSYS). Both profiles are shipped with their passwords set to *NONE, so they cannot be used to sign on to your system. Do not specify passwords for these profiles.

The RBTADMIN and RBTUSER profiles were created for the following reasons:

  • Corporate auditors requested that our objects be owned differently from IBM objects.
  • They allow us to build a secure product for your environment.
  • They isolate Help/Systems products from IBM changes to QPGMR or QSECOFR defaults.

These profiles have specific authorities that allow all Help/System products to perform certain functions on your system. Without the profiles, the products will not perform as designed.

If you decide to change any attributes on the RBTADMIN or RBTUSER profiles, Help/Systems cannot guarantee that stability of our products and unexpected results may occur.
