Installing Robot/TRANSFORM

Product:
Robot/TRANSFORM

Before You Begin

The installation process automatically defines two Autostart job entries in the RBTSLEEPER subsystem description. These jobs, TRNQWATCH and  TRNIWATCH, monitor output queues and IFS directories for files to be converted to PDF. The Install Robot/TRANSFORM (TRNINSTALL) panel asks if these jobs should start when the installation completes. Enter *YES to start the jobs, or *NO if the jobs should not start following the installation.

IFS Directory Monitoring

To set up automated monitoring of IFS directories for files to convert, see the Software Requirements section.

Time Settings for IFS File Conversions

The Coordinated Universal Time Offset specifies the difference, in hours and minutes, between Greenwich mean time, also known as UTC, and the current system time. If your current system time isn’t offset to Greenwich mean time, your IFS file conversions may not take place when you expect them to. This value is shipped set to +0000 and is used by the system when processing alerts that are sent to other systems in a network, at Java start up, and by SNTP clients.

  • This value should be set to reflect how far ahead or behind Greenwich mean time your location is. For example, in the United States, Central Standard Time (CST), is six hours behind Greenwich mean time. Therefore, the value is set to –06:00. This value should be changed each time Daylight Savings Time (DST) begins or ends.
  • To check this value, enter WRKSYSVAL on a command line and display QUTCOFFSET. You must IPL your system for this value to take effect.

If the time zone used by Robot/TRANSFORM isn’t the same time zone where your System i is located, your IFS file conversions may not take place when you expect them to.

  • Use the Change Server Time Zone (RSLCHGTZ) command to set the time zone used by Robot/TRANSFORM to the time zone where your System i is located. Robot/TRANSFORM displays this time zone on each PC where it is installed, but it does not affect the PC’s system clock.

Installing Robot/TRANSFORM on Remote Systems

You can send save files (*SAVF) to a remote system and install Robot/TRANSFORM on it without a product CD. In addition to sending the *SAVFs, you must:

  1. Create a directory named Help Systems/installs on the target system.
  2. Locate the Help Systems/installs directory in your IFS and place the files in this directory in the new directory on the target system. To find this directory, enter the following command on a command line:
  3. WRKLNK OBJ(‘/HELP SYSTEMS/INSTALLS’)

  4. To place the files from the Help Systems/installs directory into the new directory on the target system, enter the following command:
  5. SAV DEV(‘/QSYS.LIB/libraryname.lib /savfname.file) + OBJ((‘/HELP SYSTEMS/INSTALLS’))

where libraryname and savfname are the names of the library and save file.

  6. To restore the Help Systems/installs directory to the target system, enter the following command:
  7. RST DEV(‘/QSYS.LIB/libraryname.LIB/savfname.FILE’) + OBJ((‘/HELP SYSTEMS/INSTALLS’)) + SUBTREE(*DIR)

where libraryname and savfname are the names of the library and save file.

  8. Delete the *SAVF file after the Help Systems/installs directory has been restored to the target system.

Software Requirements

To set up automated monitoring of IFS directories for files to convert, you must have the following installed on your System i.

Licensed Programs for V5R4

  • 5722SS1 opt 30 - Qshell
  • 5722JV1 *base - IBM Developer Kit for Java
  • 5722JV1 opt 6 -Java Developer Kit 1.4 (default value used)

Licensed Programs for V6R1

  • 5761SS1 opt 30 – Qshell
  • 5761JV1 *base - IBM Developer Kit for Java
  • 5761JV1 opt 6—Java Developer Kit 1.4 (default value used)

Licensed Programs for V7R1

  • 5770SS1 opt 30 - Qshell
  • 5761JV1 *base - IBM Developer Kit for Java
  • 5761JV1 opt 11 - Java SE 6 32 bit (default value used)

The Robot/TRANSFORM install process copies the following files to the IFS in the path /Help Systems/installs:

  • trninst.sh
  • common.jar
  • rbttrn.jar

* We’ve indicated the default java version. This can be overridden after the installation process. To find out more about this process, contact Help/Systems.

Note: The Help/Systems installation process restored the following three libraries to your system for use during installation: HSBOOT, RBTCDRLIB, and HSSAVF. In case you are doing multiple installations, we do not remove them from your system. You can delete them when you have finished your installations.

Required Versions of Help/Systems Products (If Installed)

You can use Robot/TRANSFORM with these Help/Systems products:

  • Robot/ALERT version 5.13 or higher
  • Robot/NETWORK version 9.0 or higher
  • Robot/REPORTS version 7.0 or higher. Note: Robot/REPORTS 7.0 includes a Robot/TRANSFORM output option
  • Robot/SCHEDULE version 9.0 or higher

Installing Robot/TRANSFORM

  1. Sign on under a user profile that is a member of the user class *SECOFR and has at least the following special authorities: *ALLOBJ, *SECADM, *JOBCTL, and *IOSYSCFG. The user profile should have Limit capabilities set to *NO.
  2. End all Help/Systems products. The install process may stop the RBTSLEEPER subsystem, which is used by other Help/Systems products. Stopping RBTSLEEPER interrupts processing by these products.
  3. Make sure that the library QTEMP is in your library list before you start installing.
  4. Enter the following command to display the Maintain Help/Systems Products menu:
  5. RBTCDRLIB/HLPCDMENU

  6. Select option 1 from the Maintain Help/Systems Products menu to display the Install Products panel, which lists the Help/Systems products not currently installed on your system.
  7. If you would like more information about a product and its features, enter a 3 next to the product name.

  8. Option 1 on the Install Products panel displays the Install Instructions panel for the product; this is the same information included in the Before You Begin and After You Are Done sections of these instructions.
  9. When you are ready to start installing, enter a 2 next to Robot/TRANSFORM on the Install Products panel.
  10. The installation program installs Robot/TRANSFORM, the RBTSYSLIB library (as needed), and two user profiles (RBTADMIN and RBTUSER). It adds RBTSYSLIB to the system portion of your library list if required.

When the installation completes, read the After You Are Done instructions for any additional information or instructions.

After You Are Done

If the time zone used by Robot/TRANSFORM isn’t the same time zone where your System i is located, your IFS conversions may not take place at the expected time. Use the Change Server Time Zone (RSLCHGTZ) command to set the time zone used by Robot/TRANSFORM to the time zone where your System i is located. Robot/TRANSFORM displays this time zone on each PC where it is installed, but it does not affect the PC’s system clock.
