Installing Robot/SPACE 3.0

Before You Install

Read these instructions completely before you install Robot/SPACE.

The Robot/SPACE installation process calls a Help/Systems program to create or change the two Help/Systems user profiles, RBTUSER and RBTADMIN. These profiles own all Robot/SPACE objects. RBTADMIN has the characteristics of a QSECOFR profile. RBTUSER has attributes like QPGMR. Directory entries are added automatically for the RBTADMIN and RBTUSER profiles. The RBTUSER and RBTADMIN profiles were created for the following reasons:

  • They satisfy requests from corporate auditors that our objects be owned differently from IBM objects.
  • They allow us to build a secure product for your environment.
  • They isolate Help/Systems products from IBM changes to the QPGMR or QSECOFR profile
  • defaults.

Note: If you have made any manual changes to the RBTUSER or RBTADMIN user profiles and their authorities, these changes will be lost with any product installation or conversion.

Software Requirements

If you use any of the following products, they must be at the release/modification levels shown (or higher) to work properly with Robot/SPACE 3.0.

Note: To see the version and modification level of each product you currently have installed, enter the command RSLVER on a command line.

If you use network security software on your system, you should be aware that the Robot/SPACE GUI uses the following servers and and exit points:

We recommend that all these exit point be open to RBTUSER, RBTADMIN, and the user(s) who will be using Robot/SPACE.

Installation Options

The installation command, SPCINSTALL, uses the following default options that you can change.

  • “Start monitor when done” is set to *YES. The disk monitor will start automatically after installation. Set this value to *NO if you do not want the disk monitor to start automatically after installation.
  • “Run Collection Group” is set to *SUMMARY. After installation, the collection group runs automatically and collects summary data. You can change this value to one of the following:
    • *DETAIL automatically collects more detailed data about your system after installation.
    • *NONE if you do not want any collection group to gather data after installation.

Installing Robot/SPACE

  1. Sign on under a user profile that is a member of the user class *SECOFR and has at least the following special authorities: *ALLOBJ, *SECADM, *JOBCTL, and *IOSYSCFG. The user profile should have Limit capabilities set to *NO.
  2. End all Help/Systems products. The install process may stop the RBTSLEEPER subsystem, which is used by other Help/Systems products. Stopping RBTSLEEPER interrupts processing by these products.
  3. Make sure that the library QTEMP is in your library list before you start installing.
  4. Enter the following command to display the Maintain Help/Systems Products menu:

  5. Select option 1 from the Maintain Help/Systems Products menu to display the Install Products panel, which lists the Help/Systems products not currently installed on your system.

    6. If you would like more information about a product and its features, enter a 3 next to the product name.

  6. Option 1 on the Install Products panel displays the Install Instructions panel for the product; this is the same information included in the Before You Begin and After You Are Done sections of these instructions. 
  7. When you are ready to start installing, enter a 2 next to Robot/SPACE on the Install Products panel.

    8. The installation program installs Robot/SPACE, the RBTSYSLIB library (as needed), and two user profiles (RBTADMIN and RBTUSER). It adds RBTSYSLIB to the system portion of your library list if required.

When the installation completes, read the After You Are Done instructions for any additional information or instructions.

After You Are Done Installing Robot/SPACE

The install program restored two libraries to your System i: RBTSPCLIB and RBTSYSLIB.

Note: The Help/Systems installation process also restored the following three libraries to your system for use during installation: HSBOOT, RBTCDRLIB, and HSSAVF. In case you are doing multiple installations, we do not remove them from your system. You can delete them when you have finished your installations.

Installing Robot/SPACE on a PC

To install the Robot/SPACE interface on a PC, download the Robot/SPACE PC code and follow the instructions that display.
