Installing Robot/SCHEDULE Enterprise Server
Before You Install on the System i
Read these instructions completely before you install Robot/SCHEDULE Enterprise on your System i.
General Considerations
- For Robot/SCHEDULE Enterprise to operate, you must install Help/Systems’ job scheduler, Robot/SCHEDULE, R10M21 or higher. If you use Robot/NETWORK, the host needs to be at R10M15 or higher and the node needs to be at R10M14 or higher.
- The Robot/SCHEDULE Enterprise installation process calls a Help/Systems program to create a user profile, RBTENTUSR. The user profile uses the group profile RBTADMIN for communications between the System i Enterprise Server and the agent systems.
- Before installing Robot/SCHEDULE Enterprise, you have the option of running a pre-installation check to determine whether the installation will complete successfully. To do so, display the Maintain Help/Systems Products menu. Select option 5 and enter the following special code: HLPSRBE01.
- The installation process calls a Help/Systems program to create or change the two Help/Systems user profiles, RBTUSER and RBTADMIN. The RBTUSER and RBTADMIN profiles:
- Satisfy requests from auditors that our objects be owned differently from IBM objects.
- Allow us to build a secure product for your environment.
- Isolate Help/Systems products from IBM changes to the QPGMR or QSECOFR profile defaults.
Note: If you have made any manual changes to the RBTUSER or RBTADMIN user profiles and their authorities, these changes will be lost with any product installation or conversion.
- No other Help/Systems products can be active while Robot/SCHEDULE Enterprise is installed. The installation process ends the RBTSLEEPER subsystem. For minimal impact on your operations, plan to install at a time when your Help/Systems products are not active.
- If you are currently using Robot/CLIENT, you can run Robot/CLIENT and Robot/SCHEDULE
- Enterprise on the same System i and attached servers at the same time.
- To use Robot/SCHEDULE Enterprise, you must install the Robot/SCHEDULE Explorer.
- If there are any firewalls between your PC and the System i, verify that your System i profile has access to the PC. Also, if you have any firewalls between your System i servers, they must allow access to the RBTENTUSR profile.
- Your network must be configured and working using TCP/IP configuration.
- Make sure your startup program starts TCP/IP before it starts the RBTSLEEPER subsystem.
- You cannot install Robot/SCHEDULE Enterprise while your System i is in a restricted state.
Prerequisite i5/OS Software
To use Robot/SCHEDULE Enterprise, you must have the following software installed on your System i.
| OS Level |
Software Required |
| Any* | QSHELL - product option 30 QSYS/QSH must exist |

If its status is Not Installed, display the group, determine which PTFs need to be applied to change its status to Installed, and apply them. If the status is Not Installed, the conversion displays warning messages about the PTF group. Note: If you automatically download PTF updates, the group’s status may change to Not Installed |
* Robot/SCHEDULE Enterprise is supported for i5/OS V5R3 and higher.
TCP/IP Considerations
- Make sure your startup program starts TCP/IP before it starts the RBTSLEEPER subsystem.
- For successful network communications, Robot/NETWORK 10 requires a fully qualified TCP/IP host name in the format of system_name.domain_name to be in the local directory and/or the DNS server. To use Robot/NETWORK, you must create a host table entry, set a host name and domain name for your Host, and configure TCP/IP applications to TELNET (for TELNET use only).
Installing Robot/SCHEDULE Enterprise
- Sign on under a user profile that is a member of the user class *SECOFR and has at least the following special authorities: *ALLOBJ, *SECADM, *JOBCTL, and *IOSYSCFG. The user profile should have Limit capabilities set to *NO.
- End all Help/Systems products. The install process may stop the RBTSLEEPER subsystem, which is used by other Help/Systems products. Stopping RBTSLEEPER interrupts processing by these products.
- Make sure that the library QTEMP is in your library list before you start installing.
- Enter the following command to display the Maintain Help/Systems Products menu:
- Select option 1 from the Maintain Help/Systems Products menu to display the Install Products panel, which lists the Help/Systems products not currently installed on your system.
- Option 1 on the Install Products panel displays the Install Instructions panel for the product; this is the same information included in the Before You Begin and After You Are Done sections of these instructions.
- When you are ready to start installing, enter a 2 next to Robot/SCHEDULE Enterprise on the Install Products panel.
RBTCDRLIB/HLPCDMENU
If you would like more information about a product and its features, enter a 3 next to the product name.
The installation program installs Robot/SCHEDULE Enterprise, the RBTSYSLIB library (as needed), and two user profiles (RBTADMIN and RBTUSER). It adds RBTSYSLIB to the system portion of your library list if required.
When the installation completes, read the After You Are Done instructions for any additional information or instructions.
After You Are Done Installing the Server Software
The Help/Systems installation process restored the following three libraries to your system for use during installation: HSBOOT, RBTCDRLIB, and HSSAVF. In case you are doing multiple installations, we do not remove them from your system. You can delete them when you have finished your installations.
