Converting from Robot/SPACE Version 2 to Version 3

Product:
Robot/SPACE

Before You Begin

  • i5/OS V5R3 or higher is required to run Robot/SPACE 3.0. Make sure the proper OS level is installed on your System i.
  • If you have other Help/Systems products, you need to be at the following release/modification levels (or higher) to use Robot/SPACE 3.0:
  • Product Level
    Robot/ALERT R05M18
    Robot/CLIENT R05M11
    Robot/CORRAL R02M09
    Robot/CPA R04M19
    Robot/NETWORK (Host) R09M42
    Robot/NETWORK (Node) R09M42
    Robot/SCHEDULE R09M18
    Robot System Library R01M96

To find the release/modification level of the Help/Systems products on your system, enter the command RSLVER on a command line.

  • If you are retaining large amounts of history, we recommend that you purge history records before
proceeding with the conversion. See the Robot/SPACE User Guide for complete information.
  • The conversion process calls a Help/Systems program to create or change the two Help/Systems user
profiles, RBTUSER and RBTADMIN. The RBTUSER and RBTADMIN profiles were created for
    the following reasons:
  • They satisfy requests from corporate auditors that our objects be owned differently from IBM objects they allow us to build a secure product for your environment; and they isolate Help/Systems products from IBM changes to the QPGMR or QSECOFR profile defaults.

Note: If you have made any manual changes to the RBTUSER or RBTADMIN user profiles and their authorities, these changes will be lost with any product installation or conversion.

  • If you use network security software on your system, you should be aware that the Robot/SPACE GUI uses the following servers and and exit points:
  • Server Exit Point
    NETPRT QIBM_QNPS_ENTRY
    FILE QIBM_QPWFS_FILE_SERV
    DATABASE QIBM_QZDASQL2
    RMTCMD QIBM_QZRC_RMT
    SIGNON QIBM_QZSO_SIGNONSRV

We recommend that all these exit point be open to RBTUSER, RBTADMIN, and the user(s) who will be using Robot/SPACE.

  • To help troubleshoot potential conversion problems, you can run a pre-checker program that lists expired
IFS and library objects. To run the program, enter LODRUN from a command line and select
Option 5. Then, enter the following command: HLPSSPC03

What You Need to Know

A summary of the differences between Robot/SPACE 2.0 and 3.0 appears below. For complete information on using Robot/SPACE 3.0, see the Robot/SPACE User Guide.

Monitors

  • Monitoring Storage for Active Jobs was enhanced to include monitors for QTEMP and Spooled File Storage. The existing monitor for Job Temporary Storage will continue to function as before. The monitors for QTEMP and Spooled File Storage may need to be customized following the conversion.
  • Support to track detail threshold records for Job Monitors was added, but must be enabled following the conversion if you want that level of information.

Collections

  • Existing collection groups need to be modified if you want to collect member level statistics.

Commands

  • The values for the start and end monitors commands have changed.
    • The *ALL value ends ASP, QTEMP, SPLF, and JTS monitors.
    • The BOTH value is still supported, but ends all monitors (see *ALL value).
    • The ASP value still works, but is used as the new *ASP value.
    • The JOB value still works, but is used as the new *JTS value, which starts or ends the job temporary storage monitor.

Note: You will need to modify any in-house programs or procedures that use either the SPCSTRMON or SPCENDMON command with the any of the following parameters: BOTH, ASP, or JOB. See the Robot/SPACE User Guide for more information.

Converting to Robot/SPACE 3.0

  1. Sign on under a user profi le that is a member of the user class *SECOFR and has at least the following special authorities: *ALLOBJ, *SECADM, *JOBCTL, and *IOSYSCFG. The user profile should have Limit capabilities set to *NO. Make sure no users are signed on to the product you are converting.
  2. End all Robot/SPACE monitors. You can end all Robot/SPACE monitors by entering the following command and pressing Function Key 4:
  3. SPCENDMON

You can also use the Robot/SPACE Explorer GUI to stop all monitors.

  4. Remove RBTSPCLIB from all library lists. There should be no object locks on the RBTSPCLIB library.
  5. Enter the following command to display the Maintain Help/Systems Products menu:
  6. RBTCDRLIB/HLPCDMENU

  7. Select option 4 from the Maintain Help/Systems Products menu and enter the following conversion code:
  8. HLPCSPC03

Temporary Robot/SPACE Library

During the conversion process, the Robot/SPACE library (RBTSPCLIB) for the previous version is renamed RBTSPCV2 and Robot/SPACE 3.0 is installed in a new RBTSPCLIB. When the Install SPACE Version 3.0 panel displays, if you specify *YES in the Delete SPACE V2 library field (see below), Robot/SPACE removes RBTSPCV2 and its contents when the conversion to Version 3.0 completes.

If you specify *YES in the Delete SPACE V2 library field (the default
is *NO), Robot/SPACE deletes the temporary library, RBTSPCV2,
when the conversion to Version 3.0 completes successfully.

After You Are Done

When the conversion completes, enter the WRKSPLF command and check the conversion spooled files and job log for errors. Call Help/Systems Technical Support at 952-933-0609 if you have any questions.

  1. Restart the Robot/SPACE monitors. You can start all Robot/SPACE monitors by entering the following command and pressing Function Key 4:
  2. SPCSTRMON

  3. Install Robot/SPACE on the PC on which you will be running the Robot/SPACE Explorer. Download the Robot/SPACE PC code and follow the instructions that display.

Notes:

  • There is no conflict if you want to have both Robot/SPACE version 2 and Robot/SPACE version 3 on the same PC. In fact, you may need both versions if you plan to use the PC to connect to multiple System i systems that are running different versions of Robot/SPACE.
  • If you decide to remove Robot/SPACE version 2 from your PC, you must perform the process manually—the conversion process does not remove the software. Warning: Do not remove Robot/Common Java when uninstalling Robot/SPACE 2.

To remove Robot/SPACE 2.0 from a PC

  1. From the Start menu, select Settings/Control Panel.
  2. Select Add/Remove programs from the Control Panel window.
  3. Select Robot/SPACE 2.0 and click the Add/Remove button. Confirm that you want to delete Robot/SPACE 2.0 and all its files and programs.

Note: If you use other Help/Systems products on the PC, do not remove Robot/Common Java.

Troubleshooting

The conversion process creates a spooled file (report): the Robot/SPACE installation log. These two log file reports help you identify whether the conversion procedure completed successfully. If there were problems during the conversion, you (or Help/Systems Technical Support) can use these log reports with
the job log to identify and resolve them.
