Converting Robot/ALERT Version 4.0 to 5.0

Before You Begin

  • We suggest that you use the Robot/ALERT History Menu option to delete the history in both the transmission log and message history files before you begin the conversion.
  • All Help/Systems products must be inactive during the conversion. Plan your conversion for a time when this will have little effect on your operations (see the next item).
  • During the conversion process, if any message is sent to Robot/ALERT, Robot/ALERT and the RBTSLEEPER subsystem will become active.
    • To lock Robot/ALERT and prevent it from becoming active, enter the following command before you begin the conversion process:
    • RBTALRLIB/RBALOCK ACTION(*LOCK)

    • When the conversion is complete, you must unlock Robot/ALERT by entering the following command:
    • RBTALRLIB/RBALOCK ACTION (*UNLOCK)

  • The conversion process deletes and re-creates your line descriptions in Robot/ALERT. If you have made changes to these line descriptions, please keep track of these changes before you begin the conversion.
  • Make sure that no users have the library RBTALRLIB in their library list.
  • Make sure you have a complete backup of the RBTALRLIB library.
  • Job descriptions are replaced during the conversion process. If you have made changes to RBAJOBD, RBAMON, or RBARPT, you must reapply them following the conversion.
  • Physical file descriptions are replaced during the conversion process. If you have made changes to any of the descriptions, such as the maximum number of records, you must reapply them following the conversion.
  • If you have changed the value for the maximum number of jobs allowed in the RBTSLEEPER subsystem, be aware that the conversion process will add four new jobs to this subsystem: RBATM, RBATM2, RBACXXM, and RBACXXT.
  • If you have transmission log or message history deletion jobs scheduled to run in Robot/SCHEDULE, you must delete the Robot/SCHEDULE jobs and reschedule them following the conversion. Some of the parameters have changed.
  • To use Robot/ALERT’s paging feature with Robot/SAVE’s Restricted State Utility (RSU), you must have Robot/SAVE version 8.35, or higher.
  • To use Robot/ALERT’s two-way paging feature with Robot/CONSOLE, you must have Robot/CONSOLE version 3.0, or higher.
  • The conversion process calls a Help/Systems program to create or change the two Help/Systems user profiles, RBTUSER and RBTADMIN. The RBTUSER and RBTADMIN profiles were created for the following reasons:
  • They satisfy requests from corporate auditors that our objects be owned differently from IBM objects.
  • They allow us to build a secure product for your environment.
  • They isolate Help/Systems products from IBM changes to the QPGMR or QSECOFR profile defaults.
  • Note: If you have made any manual changes to the RBTUSER or RBTADMIN user profiles and their authorities, these changes will be lost with any product installation or conversion.

Converting Robot/ALERT

  1. Sign on under a user profile that:
    • Is a member of the user class *SECOFR.
    • Has the following special authorities: *ALLOBJ, *SECADM, *JOBCTL, and *IOSYSCFG.
    • Has limit capabilities set to *NO.
    • Make sure no users are signed on to the product you are converting.
  2. End all Help/Systems products.
  3. The conversion process stops the RBTSLEEPER subsystem, which is used by other Help/Systems products. Stopping RBTSLEEPER interrupts processing by these products.

  4. Enter the following command to display the Maintain Help/Systems Products menu:
  5. RBTCDRLIB/HLPCDMENU

  6. Select option 4 from the Maintain Help/Systems Products menu and enter the following conversion code:
  7. HLPCALR05

After You Are Done

  • When the conversion completes, enter the WRKSPLF command and check the conversion spooled files and job log for errors. Call Help/Systems Technical Support if you have any questions.
  • If the library RBTALROLD was not deleted from your system, enter the following command:
  • DLTLIB RBTALROLD

  • You can display online versions of all user manuals directly from the CD labeled PC/UNIX Code & User Guides. Insert the CD into the CD drive of your PC and click the Manuals link. Then, use the Adobe Acrobat Reader to display the manuals online.

Important

  • If you are sharing an IBM 7852-400 modem with you ECS line, you need to rerun the RBASYNCLIN command after the conversion to allow your modem to switch between synchronous and asynchronous modes.
  • Remember to unlock Robot/ALERT by entering the following command when the conversion is complete:
  • RBTALRLIB/RBALOCK ACTION (*UNLOCK)

  • If you are using an internal modem, the conversion process deletes the line description that Robot/ALERT uses for the modem. You must re-create the line description after the conversion completes by entering the following command:
  • CRTLINASC LIND(RBALXX) RSRCNAME(XXXXXX) INTERFACE(*INTMODEM) CNN(*SWTPP) VRYWAIT(60) SWTCNN(*DIAL) AUTOANS(*NO) AUTODIAL(*YES) DIALCMD(*OTHER) INACTTMR(*NOMAX) TEXT('R/ALERTLINE') AUT(*ALL)
