Converting Robot/SAVE Version 11 to Version 12

Product:
Robot/SAVE

Before You Begin

What You Need to Know

  • Robot/SAVE must be at R11M00 or higher to convert to Robot/SAVE 12. If the current release of Robot/SAVE on your system is below this level, update Robot/SAVE before continuing with the conversion.
  • Converting from Robot/SAVE 12 preserves your Robot/SAVE license code.
  • The conversion process calls a Help/Systems program to create or change the two Help/Systems user profiles, RBTUSER and RBTADMIN. The RBTUSER and RBTADMIN profiles were created for the following reasons:
    • They satisfy requests from corporate auditors that our objects be owned differently from IBM objects.
    • They allow us to build a secure product for your environment.
    • They isolate Help/Systems products from IBM changes to the QPGMR or QSECOFR profile defaults.
  • Note: If you have made any manual changes to the RBTUSER or RBTADMIN user profiles and their authorities, these changes will be lost with any product installation or conversion.

  • IBM Media and Storage Extensions (MSE) is required for Robot/SAVE 12 to work properly.

Preparing for the Conversion

Use the following checklist to help you plan for your conversion. Some items must be done right before you start the conversion; others can be done up to several days in advance. As you read through this list, if you can answer “Yes” to the question in the first column, read the instructions in the second column. If you answer “No” to the question, skip to the next question. By taking the time to prepare your system, your conversion to Robot/SAVE 12 should proceed smoothly.

If you can answer Yes to this question

Make sure you read this!

Do you use other Help/ Systems products with Robot/SAVE?

For other Help/Systems products to work properly with Robot/SAVE Version 12, they must be at the following release/modification levels or higher. Update these products on your system before converting Robot/SAVE.

  • Robot/NETWORK Version 10: Host R010M15; Node R10M14
  • Note: Upgrade Robot/NETWORK to these release/modification levels before converting Robot/SAVE.

  • Robot/ALERT R05M38
  • Robot/CORRAL R02M13
  • Robot/REPORTS R07M31
  • Robot/SCHEDULE R10M12
  • Robot System Library (RBTSYSLIB) R01M93

Do you have libraries on your system from previous upgrade or conversion operations?

If any of the following libraries exist, delete them by entering the appropriate command(s) before starting the conversion:

  • DLTLIB HSSAVF
  • DLTLIB HELPNETLIB
  • DLTLIB HSSAVFWEBU
  • DLTLIB HSSAVFWEBI
  • DLTLIB RBTCDRLIB
  • DLTLIB HSBOOT

If you have any questions, please contact Help/Systems Technical Support.

Is the system you are converting in a data center?

You will be required to end the Robot/SAVE monitor jobs. See the Robot/SAVE User Guide for information on ending these jobs.

Notes:

  • All systems in the data center must be at Robot/SAVE R10M22 or higher to be included in the data center.
  • You must convert the DCMS first before converting the data center participant systems.

Do you mirror Robot/SAVE libraries?

Call Help/Systems Technical Support before starting the conversion.

Have you placed objects or data in your Robot/SAVE libraries?

The conversion will not copy or move objects you have placed in RBSPGMLIB or RBSDTALIB. Save these objects before converting.

Do you have RBSPGMLIB, RBSDTALIB, or RBSTMPLIB in the system value QSYSLIBL?

Remove the libraries and IPL your system before beginning the conversion.

Have you modified any Robot/SAVE parameter values by calling the program RBS900?

The conversion preserves any changes you have made.

Do you have personal programs or Robot/SCHEDULE jobs that use Robot/SAVE commands or programs?

Robot/SAVE sometimes requires adjustments to variable lengths or parameter changes in your programs. You also might need to recompile your programs if you make changes after converting Robot/SAVE.

Have you modified the Robot/SAVE job descriptions RBSJOBD or RBSARCHIVE?

The job descriptions will be changed to the default values during the conversion. Make a note of any changes you have made. You must re-enter them after the conversion has completed.

Are there Robot/SAVE jobs that have not completed or are waiting in the job queue (for example, archive jobs)?

Make sure all Robot/SAVE 11 jobs have completed before starting the conversion. If there are incomplete archive jobs in a job queue, run them before converting. If you need to resume a backup that was run in Version 11, do so before converting to Robot/SAVE 12. You cannot resume save jobs run in a previous version after converting to Robot/SAVE 12.

Do you currently use an IBM automated media library (AML) with Robot/SAVE?

After the conversion completes, run the RBSAMLLRN command to inventory the tapes in the IBM AML. See the Robot/SAVE 12 User Guide for complete information on setting up your AML in Robot/SAVE 12.

Pre-Conversion Checker Program

Before you convert to Robot/SAVE 12, you can run a pre-conversion program that verifies whether the conversion will complete successfully. To run this program, do the following:

  • From a command prompt, enter the command RBTCDRLIB/HLPCDMENU to display the Maintain Help/Systems Products menu.
  • Enter the special code HLPSRBS12 for option 5.
  • Enter in the Option field and press Enter.

PC Backups

For Robot/SAVE 12, the PC Backup feature has been removed. As a result, the conversion process will not complete until any Robot/SAVE Backup Sets defined for PC Backup have been removed. The pre-conversion checker program will indicate whether PC Backup-type backup sets exist.

If you have any questions, please contact Technical Support at 952-933-0609.

Converting Robot/SAVE

Note: Robot/SAVE is an active product with monitor jobs that run in the RBTSLEEPER subsystem. If you have other Robot products on your system, end them and end the RBTSLEEPER subsystem before starting the conversion.

  1. Back up the Robot/SAVE libraries using the following command:
  2. SAVLIB LIB(RBSPGMLIB RBSDTALIB RBSPCBLIB RBTROLLIB RBTSYSLIB) DEV(TAPxx) + VOL(*MOUNTED) ENDOPT(*REWIND)

Note: Make sure all objects from the libraries are saved.

  3. Sign on under a user profile that is a member of the user class *SECOFR and has at least the following special authorities: *ALLOBJ, *SECADM, *JOBCTL, and *IOSYSCFG. The user profile should have Limit capabilities set to *NO. Make sure no users are signed on to Robot/SAVE.
  4. Enter the following commands in the order shown:
  5. ADDLIBLE RBSPGMLIB

    ADDLIBLE RBSDTALIB

Important: You must run the following command when no tape or save commands are running interactively or in batch:

    RBSPGMLIB/RBSUNINSTL

Enter the following commands to remove the libraries from your library list:

    RMVLIBLE RBSPGMLIB

    RMVLIBLE RBSDTALIB

  6. Check to make sure that all of the following are true:
    • No users currently are working in Robot/SAVE.
    • RBSPGMLIB, RBSDTALIB, and RBSTMPLIB are not in the system library list.
    • No active jobs have locks on RBSPGMLIB, RBSDTALIB, or RBSTMPLIB. Enter the following commands to check for object locks:

      WRKOBJLCK RBSPGMLIB *LIB

      WRKOBJLCK RBSDTALIB *LIB

      WRKOBJLCK RBSTMPLIB *LIB

      WRKOBJLCK RBSPCBLIB *LIB

  7. Enter the following command:
  8. RBTCDRLIB/HLPCDMENU

This displays the Maintain Help/Systems Products menu.

  9. Select option 4 from the Maintain Help/Systems Products menu and enter the following conversion code:
  10. HLPCRBS12

  11. The conversion process displays the RBSINSTALL prompt panel.
  12. Note: During the conversion process, the RBSPGMLIB and RBSDTALIB libraries for the previous version are renamed to RBSPGMOLD and RBSDTAOLD, respectively, and RBSTMPLIB is deleted. Robot/SAVE Version 12.0 is installed in RBSPGMLIB and RBSDTALIB.

If you specify *YES in the Delete old database when done field, Robot/SAVE deletes the contents of RBSPGMOLD and RBSDTAOLD when the conversion to Version 12 completes successfully.

  13. You can modify your printer settings for the printer where you will print Robot/SAVE reports. To change the settings, enter *YES in the Change printer file settings field to display the Printer file attributes field. Position your cursor on the IBM CHGPRTF command and press function key 4 to display the command prompt. You can change any attribute except the File attribute. Only printer files that match the generic name of RBS* are changed.
  14. Note: If you customized your Robot/SAVE reports, you must modify your printer settings. If you do not, your previous changes will be overwritten with default printer settings during the conversion.

  15. Press Enter to start the conversion process.

After You Are Done

  • If you use Robot/NETWORK and the system you just converted is a Host system running Robot/NETWORK version 10, manually delete the Robot/SAVE Product Master library, RBNRBSMST.
  • When the conversion process has completed successfully, sign off the system, and sign back on again so that RBTSYSLIB is inserted in the system portion of your library list. Then, enter the command RBO on a command line and select the option for Robot/SAVE.
  • If you want to initialize volumes outside of Robot/SAVE using the INZTAP CHECK(*NO) VOL(*MOUNTED) command, you must change the Allow blind initialization field on the Robot/SAVE Media Defaults panel. Robot/SAVE does not allow this type of volume initialization. See Media Defaults in the Robot/SAVE online help for complete information.
  • If you want to encrypt objects using Robot/SAVE and your operating system level is V5R3, make sure the IBM licensed program 5722AC3, Cryptographic Access Provider 128-bit for the iSeries, is installed on your system. The program is available on the IBM installation CD.

Note: If your operating system level is V5R4 or higher, the program is part of the operating system and does not have to be installed.

To check if it is installed on your system, do the following:

    1. Enter GO LICPGM on a command line.
    2. On the Work with Licensed Programs panel, select option 10, Display installed licensed programs.
    3. When the Display Installed Licensed Programs panel displays, look for licensed program 5722AC3.

If the program is not installed, load your IBM installation CD and install it on your system.

  • If you previously modified the Robot/SAVE job descriptions RBSJOBD or RBSARCHIVE, re-enter those changes.

Additional Information

  • If your operating system level is V6R1 or higher and you plan to use the Robot/SAVE Restricted State Utility (RSU), be aware that the default behavior of the Power Down System (PWRDWNSYS) command has changed. The default value (*ENVVAR) for the CONFIRM parameter on the PWRDWNSYS command displays a confirmation window. This causes the RSU to halt and wait for a confirmation before performing the IPL.

Enter the following command on a command line to permanently bypass the confirmation window on the PWRDWNSYS command:

    ADDENWAR ENWAR (QIBM_PWRDWNSYS_CONFIRM) VALUE(*NO) LEVEL(*SYS)

  • The conversion process restored the following three Robot/SAVE libraries: RBTSYSLIB, RBSPGMLIB, and RBSDTALIB.
  • The conversion process also restored the libraries HSBOOT, RBTCDRLIB, and HSSAVF for use during the conversion; you can delete these libraries when you have finished the conversion.
  • The conversion created the following two spooled files and put them on hold. Enter the WRKSPLF command and check the conversion spooled files and job log for errors. Call Help/Systems Technical Support if you have any questions.
    • Robot/SAVE Installation Log (RBSINSTP)

This report allows you to identify whether or not the conversion procedure completed successfully. Using this report with the job log allows you, or our technical support consultants, to identify and help resolve problems that may have occurred.

    • Job Log

At the end of the conversion procedure the job’s job log is converted to a spooled file. You can locate this file by its unique name, which has the following format:

    • RBSI999999

where 999999 is the system time when the spool file was created.

You can print the spooled files to have a complete record of the conversion. However, you may not need to. After you are running for 100 days, delete the files if you need the disk space.

  • For backup set types A, 6, 7, 8, and 9, the libraries saved no longer are listed on the Items to be Saved panel in the backup set setup. Items are listed on the panel only if the Save code is NO (Item should be omitted) or EXT (files in the library are set to be reorganized).
  • You can display online versions of the Robot/SAVE user documentation from the Help/Systems download page and Help/FACTS page.
