Converting from EASY VIEW 7.0 to 8.0

Before You Begin

Read these instructions completely before you begin.

  • To convert to EASY VIEW 8.0, you need the following release/modification level (or higher) of EASY VIEW: R07M30. You can find this information using the command RSLVER, or use F10 from the RBO menu, or, if EASY VIEW is the only Help/Systems product on this system, use the command DSPDTAARA DTAARA(EZVIEW/EVXRELMOD).
  • The conversion process calls a Help/Systems program to create or change the two Help/Systems user profiles, RBTUSER and RBTADMIN. The RBTUSER and RBTADMIN profiles were created for the following reasons:
    • They satisfy requests from corporate auditors that our objects be owned differently from IBM objects.
    • They allow us to build a secure product for your environment.
    • They isolate Help/Systems products from IBM changes to the QPGMR or QSECOFR profile defaults.

    Note: If you have made any manual changes to the RBTUSER or RBTADMIN user profiles and their authorities, these changes will be lost with any product installation or conversion.

  • EZVIEW files are shipped with a standard of 10,000 records. If you have made changes to the file size of files in EZVIEW, you will need to purge or save off some information prior to your conversion.
    • Two files to check are EVPAUDT and EVPFLDS. Use the DSPFD command to find the number of records in these files. If you have more than 10,000 records, you must purge the file before you run the conversion. (Save a copy of the file if you need to restore the data after the conversion.)
    • To reduce records in EVPAUDT, use the PRGAUDIT command, or Option 5 from the EZVIEW Setup Menu.
    • To clear EVPFLDS, use the command CLREZVIEW OPTION(*DDSONLY), or Option 4 from the EZVIEW Setup Menu.

Converting EASY VIEW

  1. Sign on under a user profile that is a member of the user class *SECOFR and has at least the following special authorities: *ALLOBJ, *SECADM, *JOBCTL, *AUDIT, *IOSYSCFG, *SAVSYS, *SERVICE, and *SPLCTL. The user profile should have Limit capabilities set to *NO.
  2. Make sure no users are signed on to the product you are converting.
  3. Delete any Easy View objects that are not in your EASY VIEW library. For example, the EZVIEW command may be in library QGPL. To delete the command, enter:

  4. Use the Product Maintenance Wizard to copy the new version of EASY VIEW to your IBM i server.
  5. Sign on to the IBM i under a user profile that is a member of the user class *SECOFR and has at least the following authorities: *ALLOBJ, *SECADM, *JOBCTL, and *IOSYSCFG. The user profile should have Limit capabilities set to *NO. Make sure no users are signed on to the product you are converting.
  6. Enter the following command to display the Maintain Help/Systems Products menu:

  7. Select option 4 from the Maintain Help/Systems Products menu and enter the following conversion code:

    8. HLPCEVX08
