May 2010 Q&A
Does changing a system’s name affect the Robot products?
Yes. Many of the Robot products rely on the system name and will not function correctly if the name is changed without taking certain steps.
Most products simply require running the command RSLCHGSYSN to update the system name in their files. Others, such as Robot/NETWORK, require a few more steps. If you are considering changing a system’s name, please call Help/Systems Technical Support before you change it.
What is the future of Robot/CLIENT?
The future is Robot/SCHEDULE Enterprise. Here are a few of the great reasons to upgrade:
- Administer all jobs across your enterprise from a single central console
- Use the same terminology and interface as Robot/SCHEDULE 10
- Control error logs from one central console
- Do less programming to define server (agent) jobs
- Set up automatic encryption across the network
- Use event monitors
- Use advanced scheduling objects
- Launch shell scripts to troubleshoot servers
- Use the Schedule Activity Monitor
- Use the Job Schedule Blueprint
- Automate file transfers
