Message set testing explained step-by-step

You have created a new message set to handle a specific message ID. How do you make sure it will work without waiting until the message actually occurs? You can test it very easily by right-clicking on the message set and selecting the option, Send Test Message.

When the Test Message Data Properties window displays, press Add to create test data. When the Message Data Entry Properties window displays, enter the test data you want to send.

In this example, the OPAL code for the message set is looking for a specific value in &1 or a specific user profile. Enter the value ROXYTEST as the test data for the &1 field and press OK.

Next, right-click on the test message data and select Send from the menu that displays.

When the Select a Message Queue window displays, choose a message queue that you know is monitored by Robot/CONSOLE.

A small confirmation window displays telling you the message was sent. Now you can go to Message History and see if your test worked. Right-click on the message ID and choose Display All Info.

When the Message History Detail window displays, select the Extended Details tab to see the name of the message set that processed the message. If it was the new message set you created, you can conclude you set it up correctly.
