August 2009 Q&A

Is it possible to send a message to an e-mail address other than the one defined in the device setup in Robot/ALERT?

Yes. If you are using Robot/ALERT Version 5 Modification Level 48 (or higher), the RBASNDMSG command, has a new parameter that allows you to specify a different e-mail address than the one that exists in the device setup.

Note: You can use the E-Mail Address parameter only when the ToPager is an e-mail device (not a broadcast list).

When you specify an E-Mail Address on the command, you must still specify the device, since the device definition contains other setup data needed to send an e-mail, such as the vendor. The new E-Mail Address parameter is not required and defaults to *DEVICE when it is not used.

Is there a way to reduce the time it takes to convert to Robot/CONSOLE 5.0?

You can reduce the conversion time for Robot/CONSOLE by purging message history—just go to the Message History Menu and select Delete Message History. When you purge old history, you reduce the number of records that have to be converted.
