Message groups redirect messages without OPAL

Are you looking for an easy way to handle messages for a specific job or user? Robot/CONSOLE message groups may be the answer.

You can use message groups to group messages by application, by programming group, or by company departments. By grouping messages, you can redirect them, based on the source, without having to create an OPAL program.

Use the Message Group Properties window to define a new message group. Here’s how:

  1. Right-click on a message group in the Tree or List view of the Robot/CONSOLE Explorer and select New. Note: When you create a message group, Robot/CONSOLE automatically places the new group on hold. You must release it, using the Release Group option, before it can process messages.
  2. When the Message Group Properties window displays, enter a unique name for the message group in the Name field.
  3. Enter a brief description for the message group (this cannot be blank).
  4. Select a priority for the message group to determines the order in which message groups are checked when a new message is received. The message group priority must be a unique value between between 1 (highest priority) and 999 (lowest priority).
  5. In the Redirect to Message Center section, enter the name of a message center or use the default value (the message center assigned to the message queue specified on the Message Queue Monitor Properties window). Press the prompt button to select from a list of valid message centers defined to Robot/CONSOLE.
  6. Specify whether you want messages to be processed only by the message sets included in this group (the default value).
  7. In the fields at the bottom of the window, enter the values to be used when checking a message. You can leave a field blank, enter a specific name, or enter a generic name. For some fields, a finder displays that you can use to locate options. Generic names must follow certain rules (refer to the Robot/CONSOLE User Guide for details).
  8. Click Add to create a new line. Select a line and click Remove to delete it. Note: The selection criteria are checked in order. You can select a line and use the Move Up and Move Down buttons to change the sequence.
