With Robot/SPACE, part of Help/Systems line of automated operations software [1] products, you’ll never wonder or worry about disk space usage again. It monitors your ASPs, IASPs, libraries, IFS objects, active job storage levels, and more—automatically. It also monitors active job storage, collects disk space usage statistics, predicts future disk storage needs, and performs over 20 disk space cleanup duties.

Robot/SPACE Disk Space Usage Monitoring Software
Robot/SPACE eliminates disk space usage crises. It collects disk usage statistics, predicts future disk usage, and performs over 20 disk cleanup duties. Robot/SPACE:

Increases system performance by creating flexible storage thresholds for your temporary jobs, QTEMP files, and spooled files.
Notifies you when a storage threshold is met. If a job is growing out of control, you can hold or end it when it hits the threshold—automatically.
Reduces disk drive use by running cleanup tasks to delete unused files, list duplicate and damaged objects, clear message queues, and more

Customizable ASP And IASP Monitoring
Robot/SPACE constantly monitors your ASP and IASP (Independent Auxiliary Storage Pool) utilization. You can set up to three storage thresholds for each ASP. When a threshold you specified is reached, Robot/SPACE takes the action you want. The software can do one or more of the following:

Send a message to a message queue
Use Robot/ALERT to send a text, e-mail, or pager message to a specified device
Send a status message to the Robot/NETWORK Status Center
Start a Robot/SCHEDULE job to correct the storage problem

Stops Runaway Jobs
Robot/SPACE allows you to set storage thresholds for your temporary jobs, QTEMP files, and spooled files. When a threshold is met, the software can trigger a system message, a Robot/ALERT message, or a Robot/NETWORK status message. Also, if a job is growing out of control, you can hold or end it—automatically—when it hits the threshold you set.

Tracks Objects and Object Groups
Collection groups allow you to collect statistics for different sets of objects on your system. Use the collected statistics to create a graph that shows the growth history for a group of objects. Or, create a growth trend graph, using the object’s growth history, to predict the group’s size in the near and distant future. You also can compare library and object collection statistics to determine growth from one collection to the next.

Critical Storage Investigator
The Critical Storage Investigator (CSI) is a problem-solving tool that helps you use a logical progression to find disk storage problems quickly. It displays real-time ASP storage, detailed ASP growth history, ASP threshold history, active job storage history, and the active job status. You can assess your current storage status at a glance or, if necessary, drill down deeper to see precisely when and why storage thresholds were met.

Use a seamless interface to Robot/SCHEDULE [2], our job scheduler and batch management system, to run jobs that collect and monitor disk space usage, perform storage cleanup tasks, purge old disk space usage statistics, and print reports. You can schedule jobs to run on specific dates, at specified intervals, or based on schedule exceptions that override the regular schedule.

Robot/ALERT
If a critical storage condition exists, Robot/SPACE tells Robot/ALERT [3] to send a message to the designated device—cell phone, laptop, PDA, or pager.

Your network may consist of multiple systems, each with multiple disk drives. Managing disk space usage across your network might seem very time-consuming, or even impossible. Robot/SPACE works with Robot/NETWORK [4] to give you a central graphic display from which you can monitor the disk drive status of all of your System i systems. If a storage threshold is exceeded, the Robot/NETWORK [4] Status Center highlights the System i in trouble. If the Host operator does not acknowledge the problem, Robot/NETWORK [4] uses Robot/ALERT to send a message.

Robot/CPA
Integrate Robot/CPA [5], Robot/SPACE, and Robot/SCHEDULE [2] to automate your billing process. Robot/CPA [5], the device and job accounting software, automates statistics collection, reporting, and billing for your System i. Use Robot/SPACE to monitor and bill for disk space usage. At billing time, Robot/SPACE tells Robot/CPA [5] the amount of disk space used, by accounting code, during the billing period. The result—you can track and charge users or departments for the disk space they’ve used.

You can also schedule daily, weekly, and end-of-period procedures to run automatically as Robot/SCHEDULE [2] jobs. Robot/SCHEDULE [2] ensures that Robot/CPA [5] tasks run according to schedule, so you can be sure that statistics are collected, reports are printed, and end-of-period tasks run in the correct order, at the correct time.
