Automate report management
Your goal should be to automate report management. The foundation for this capability is Robot/REPORTS. Robot/REPORTS automatically bursts reports into targeted report segments and can convert the report into multiple formats, such as:
* Column-delimited for downloading to a workstation or spreadsheet.
* PDF, to be viewed and printed from any computer that has the free Adobe Acrobat Reader installed. (To create PDFs with embedded graphics, Robot/REPORTS outputs the file to Robot/TRANSFORM for conversion.)
* HTML, to be viewed and printed with almost any browser software.
Many customers also achieve reductions in paper use of 50% or more by using elecronic report distribution and online report viewing. Not only that, Robot/REPORTS' Robot Browser Interface reduces the amount of software end users need on their PCs for online report viewing.
You will also want to integrate Robot/ALERT and Robot/CLIENT with Robot/REPORTS. Use Robot/ALERT, messaging software, to e-mail HTML or PDF output from Robot/REPORTS via an SMTP-compliant e-mail system. Users anywhere in the world can receive their reports using e-mail. It's the ultimate in electronic report distribution! Use Robot/CLIENT, server event manager, to FTP files to servers, including Web sites.
Add Robot/TRANSFORM to create PDFs from i5/OS spooled files and IFS files—regularly or on demand. Robot/TRANSFORM preserves embedded graphics created by electronic forms packages that generate ASCII, PCL, and AFP output. Plus, Robot/TRANSFORM runs natively on the System i, eliminating the need for a separate server for this task. Robot/TRANSFORM also uses Robot/ALERT for electronic report distribution.
