Robot Browser Interface
Gives you quick, easy, single-point
access to information
Ever wished you had a fast and easy way to access information
in multiple locations using the device of your choice, including
remote devices? You would need an interface that provides
secure access to information; an interface that’s user-friendly,
familiar, and doesn’t require training; an interface
that works with Web browsers like Internet Explorer or Netscape
Navigator, as well as PCs, laptops, and PDA devices. If this
sounds too good to be true, meet the Robot Browser Interface,
Help/Systems’ Web Portal interface for Robot/REPORTS
and Robot/ALERT.
Robot/REPORTS users can use the Robot Browser Interface
to view, save, print, and customize their iSeries reports.
Robot/ALERT users can use the Robot Browser Interface to
send messages to any device defined in Robot/ALERT. Everyone
can use the Robot Browser Interface to access the Web sites
and resources they need.

The Robot Browser Interface is Help/Systems
new Web portal interface for Robot/REPORTS and Robot/ALERT.
Easy new technology with a familiar look
The Robot Browser Interface uses Portals, a Web-based application
offering single-point access to multiple types of information
and services. Portals let users access information located
throughout a network quickly and easily from a single location
using any device—PC, laptop, PDA—that
can read HyperText Markup Language (HTML). Portals reduce
the load on an IT department because there is no software
to install or update on a user’s computer. A Web server
pulls information for users from the iSeries and processes
their requests, so the administrator performs all software
maintenance on the Web server. This makes Portal software
easy to use, easy to maintain, and especially helpful for
people who connect to work over the Web. And, Portals are
browser-based, so they are familiar to users, which translates
to less training time and fewer Help Desk calls.
Total organization, easy setup, and smooth integration
Besides Portals, the Robot Browser Interface uses three other
Portal building blocks: Portal Groups, Portal Group Pages,
and Portlets. When users sign on to the Robot Browser Interface,
they see a customized Web page designed for their Portal
Group by their administrator. This Portal Group Page consists
of Portlets, mini-Web pages containing information summaries
and hyperlinks to other browser-based applications and
services.
Administrators can easily add, remove, and arrange the Portlets
on the Portal Group Page to organize and distribute the appropriate
information—such
as system news—for each Portal Group. Users can even
customize certain Portlets. For example, Robot/REPORTS users
can create links on their Frequently Used Tasks Portlet to
display important reports from various locations. The Robot
Browser Interface also helps integrate Robot/ REPORTS and
Robot/ALERT into your business. For example, an administrator
can import Web pages from an intranet, or the Internet, as
Portlets on a Portal Group Page. Then, users can access links
to Web sites, images, databases, and other important resources
with a single click.
Access multiple sources securely from a single location
Users often get tired of having to log in and out of multiple
systems to get the information they need, while administrators
worry about security. Not a problem anymore. An administrator
can easily configure the Robot Browser Interface to work
with Robot/REPORTS and Robot/ALERT on many different iSeries
systems, offering users a single point of entry to information
and resources. Yet, because the Robot Browser Interface uses
the OS/400 security model, secured access to information
is always guaranteed. The result: users can work securely
with information from different servers without having
to constantly log in and out of multiple systems.
Easy installation and the flexibility of multi-platform
support
The Robot Browser Interface bundles its own Web server and
automatically configures it at installation, saving you the
trouble of having to download it and set it up yourself.
The Web server is written entirely in Java,, compatible with
JDK 1.4 (available on your iSeries as a licensed program),
and we provide several iSeries commands to help you control
the Web server and the Robot Browser Interface. Help/Systems
also offers Web server installations for other platforms,
such as Unix and Windows.
The complete package
The Robot Browser Interface lets your users access important
information from many sources quickly, easily, and securely
using an intranet or the Internet, a Web browser, and their
favorite device: PC, laptop, or PDA. It also helps minimize
installation, configuration, and administration time and
effort, while providing the flexibility and power that
you need for local, network, and enterprise-wide information
management solutions.
