Virtual (VM) System Requirements

InterMapper Platforms/Operating Systems

The Following table lists and describes the recommended hardware and software resources for virtual environments using your virtualization provide

1. There are three variables that will need to remain static:

  • Hostname
  • IP address
  • MAC address

Note:  The variables can be set when creating a new virtual machine

2. A change in hardware attributes (CPU, storage, or memory) within the same system will not affect the way InterMapper operates – either the InterMapper server or InterMapper RemoteAccess™.  A move to a new system hardware will require a new license key.

3. A change in the Network Interface Card (NIC) will require a new license key because the MAC address is unique and tied to a network interface (physical, virtual, or wireless).

InterMapper Application Server – Minimum  Recommended Hardware

Operating System

  • Windows 7/8, Windows Server 2012/2008/2003, and Windows Server 2012 R2 (Note: IPv6 support requires Windows 7, Server 2008, or newer)
  • Mac OS X 10.7/10.8/10.9 (Intel processor required)
  • Linux distributions*: Red Hat 5/6/7, Ubuntu 10.04/12.04/14.04, Debian 6/7, SuSE 11
  • Solaris 10/11 on SPARC or x64Note:

Note:

  • Customers who install InterMapper on a headless server will need to use remote desktop access program that supports remote sounds or a copy of InterMapper RemoteAccess.
  • We do not support running InterMapper on a Mac OS virtual machine.

Processors

  •  Two (2) Virtual CPUs dedicated and reserved for App server

Memory (RAM)

  • 8 GB allocated exclusively to the Application Server on Mac and Linux
  • 16 GB allocated exclusively to the Application Server on Windows

Disk Configuration

  • OS Drive Array – 100 GB 10k SAS of pre-allocated disk space
  • Data Drive Array – 350 GB 10k SAS of pre-allocated disk space

Note:

  • This recommendation will support up to 500 devices, as your device counts increase so will the storage requirements.

InterMapper Flows – Minimum  Recommended Hardware

Operating System

  • Windows 7/8, Windows Server 2012/2008/2003, and Windows
  • Linux distributions: Red Hat 5/6/7, Ubuntu 10.04/12.04/14.04, Debian 6/7, SuSE 11 – 64bit
  • *Mac OS X 10.7/10.8/10.9 (Intel processor required)
  • Solaris 10/11 on SPARC or x64

Processors

  • Four (4) Virtual CPUs dedicated and reserved for InterMapper Flows

Memory (RAM)

  • 8 GB allocated exclusively to the InterMapper Flows for Mac and Linux
  • 16 GB allocated exclusively to the InterMapper Flows for Windows

InterMapper Flows requires a fairly powerful computer; both processor power and the amount of RAM are important considerations. The minimum recommended specifications will support up to 10 million flows per hour.

InterMapper Flows benefits from having a large amount of RAM for its database cache. Use a 64-bit Windows, Macintosh, Linux, or UNIX system if you wish to allocate more than 1.5 GBytes of RAM for the cache.

This table indicates the recommended system requirements for various flow rates:

Flows/Hour Recommended Minimum Specs
Up to 10 million Quad Core, 16 GB of RAM
Requires 64-bit Windows, Linux, UNIX, or Macintosh hardware
100 million Quad Core, 3GHz, 65 GB of RAM, RAID storage
Requires 64-bit Windows, Linux, UNIX, or Macintosh hardware

InterMapper RemoteAccess– Minimum  Recommended Hardware

Operating System

  • Windows 7/8, Windows Server 2012/2008/2003, and Windows Server 2012 R2
  • Mac OS X 10.7/10.8/10.9 (Intel processor required)
  • Linux distributions: Red Hat 5/6/7, Ubuntu 10.04/12.04/14.04, Debian 6/7, SuSE11
  • Solaris 10/11 on SPARC or x64

Note:

  • Java 1.7 is required and is included with RemoteAccess and InterMapper on Windows and Mac OS X. In general, any computer capable of running Mac OS X 10.7 or a 1 GHz Pentium or faster Windows 7/2003/2008 or UNIX computer with 512 MBytes of RAM will support InterMapper RemoteAccess.

Physical System Requirements

The following lists and describes the hardware and software options recommended for operating InterMapper software products in client environments with dedicated physical hardware.

InterMapper is the only network monitoring software that runs on all major platforms. We support all current versions of these platforms:

InterMapper Application Server – Minimum  Recommended Hardware

Operating System

  • Windows 7/8, Windows Server 2012/2008/2003, and Windows Server 2012 R2 (Note: IPv6 support requires Windows 7, Server 2008, or newer)
  • Mac OS X 10.7/10.8/10.9 (Intel processor required)

  • Solaris 10/11 on SPARC or x64Note:

Note:

  • Customers who install InterMapper on a headless server will need to use remote desktop access program that supports remote sounds or a copy of InterMapper RemoteAccess.

Processors

  • One (1) or more of the latest generation Intel or AMD processors with at least four (4) processor cores. Recommend processing speed us 2.0Ghz or higher
