Hey Neighbor!
The Good Neighbor Committee at Help/Systems was formed in August 2002 to plan volunteer events for our employees. The events allow us to help our neighbors in the community and build our skills as a team through helpful hands-on work. Each employee receives one day off per year to attend the Good Neighbor events. When planning events, the Good Neighbors select a variety of organizations to help, and choose different ways to help them.
In the fall of 2007, our annual United Way/Community Health Charities fundraiser started with the usual suspects, the Pancake Breakfast and Silent Auction. New this year was an ice cream social, serving Minneapolis’ own Sebastian Joe’s ice cream. Now that’s what we call win/win! The three-day event always raises thousands of dollars for our local agencies.
The December holiday event had a new twist: we collected gift items for children to give to their siblings and parents for the Santa Shop at Cornerstone, a non-profit agency assisting victims of domestic violence.
In March of 2008, we sent pledge takers once again to the KS95 for Kids Radiothon, benefiting the Children’s Cancer Research Fund and Gillette Children’s Hospital.
May 2008 was a big month for us as 20 employees went to Feed My Starving Children and packed 54 boxes of food. Feed My Starving Children is a Twin Cities-based non-profit agency that packages nutritious food packs and ships them around the world to feed starving people.
As always, we look forward to new opportunities to help our neighbors in the coming year. Don't forget to pause and count your blessings!
