Out Of Network - No Problem

As a data center manager you have to hate those processes that are out of your control, or out of your network. It’s like carrying a cell phone into an area where you have no coverage—it’s frustrating because you can’t control the situation.

How many of us have files that we deliver to, or pull from, networks outside of our control? That usually means staff must log onto these external servers manually as part of the night procedures. How many mistakes are made because we grab the wrong file, or accidentally skip a process?

Last week we worked with a financial company to show them how Robot/SCHEDULE Enterprise can handle this situation automatically. Each day and night, the company has people sending files between their network and about 25 outside sites.

With Robot/SCHEDULE Enterprise’s Manage FTP Server feature and its built-in FTP capabilities, you can register a server’s address and sign-on information, and schedule a job to retrieve a file at a set time, or in response to events occurring. When you build your command in the Robot/SCHEDULE job, you just specify the FTP server to use.

Behind the scenes, Robot/SCHEDULE Enterprise signs on and processes the information without having to load agent software on the remote server. (The Help/Systems Support team can help you test the process before you go "live.")

Robot/SCHEDULE Enterprise can get files from a mainframe, a Mac server, OpenVMS servers, HP Non-Stop (Tandem) servers—virtually any server that has an IP address. So, a server that’s out of your network, or your control, is no problem for Robot/SCHEDULE Enterprise.
