Finding New IBM System i Talent
Where do you get your new talent for the IBM System i? Do you find them through Monster.com? Do you use linkedin.com? There are a lot of online services to help find people that have IBM i experience, but what if you want someone with that experience who is fresh out of school?
Well, this past year I met Jim Buck, a professor at Gateway College in Kenosha, WI. Jim informed me that the students in his program were trained on IBM i and that he was getting a new Power 520 system from IBM. Earlier this past fall, Jim called and was wondering if I could provide some Help/Systems software to help his students learn. So, Help/Systems donated PowerTech security software, SEQUEL ViewPoint (our data access software), and our Robot Automated Operations Solution to the cause of educating students on IBM i.
Jim is very passionate about IBM i. He volunteers his time to his local user group WMCPA.org and works hard to educate his students on the latest technology that IBM i offers. His program is always looking for more support and places to land his students. You can check out the program at Gateway College. You’ll see that they train new people on systems administration and programming classes.
Education makes the world go around and Jim Buck’s college is helping to keep new talent interested in IBM i and the System i marketplace.
